How To Stay Away From Scams When Leasing A Car

11 Feb

Car leasing is seen by many as a good alternative to buying your own car,
because if gives you the chance to have a new car without paying all that money for it. However, one should be very careful at the leasing conditions, when such a decision is taken, because there can be tricky clauses in your agreement.

Auto Leasing Most Comon Scams

Unreal low interest rates:

Some dealers quote a lower interest rate when in reality it’s much higher, in order to make you fall in their trap and get a car leased from them. They do this by skipping to include some fees when they calculate the interest rate. Then, they would charge you those fees from upfront, and you’ll discover that you paid more. If we only look at the money factor, which is usually a four decimal digit, like 0.003. Some dealers quote this as a 3% interest rate, but the real one is this multiplied by 24, which leads us to a much bigger figure. When you want to go for a leasing agreement, don’t be ashamed to ask the dealer how they calculated the interest rate, and ask also about all fees that might not be mentioned from the start.

Leasing Termination Penalties

Ask specifically what would happen, and how much would you have to pay in case you terminate your leasing contract earlier.
Beware that termination fee is not the same thing with early termination administrative penalty. Read all clauses in the agreement very carefully, to make sure you understand all situations and you know how much you’d have to pay in any of them.

Unneeded extended warranty

This is something you surely don’t need, because the warranty automatically comes with the leasing agreement itself. Why pay twice for that? Some dealers may want to drag you into this, by creating you the impression that you need it.

No security deposit

There’s no such thing as no security deposit. This should raise an alarm in your head, and you’ll probably discover that there;s something not OK with that dealer. Stay away from such tempting offers, if you don’t want to regret your car leasing agreement later.

Tips To Know When You Rent A Car

16 Nov

Car rental is the best way to enjoy far away vacations. You travel by plane, then you rent a car at destination: you travel fast, and still you can enjoy the freedom of moving around the place, so you can visit a large area.

However, you need to be careful when you rent your car, in order to avoid trouble:

  • Try to book your car on the internet, before your arrival. If you travel in full season, you might have the unpleasant surprise that all cars are booked and you’ll haved to walk or take a bicycle.
  • Ask if your car is insured, and what does the insurance cover (many drivers, calamities, vandalism, theft…)
  • Read your contract very carefully, to see in what conditions you are liable for responsibility: small damages, scratches…
  • Always return your car refueled. Some car rental companies may charge you additionally if you forget to do this.
  • If you don’t travel with a large family, a small car can be better than a big one, in terms of finding parking spots and in terms of fuel consumption. Gasoline is becoming more expensive every day, so why to pay more, if you don’t need such a powerful or big car?
  • Check the car before signing for it: look for small damages and write everything down, because you don’t want to pay for what others did.
  • Compare prices from more than one car rental company: you may have the surprise that smaller, little known companies have better prices than the big ones, and they offer the same services. Again, why to pay more when you can pay less?

If you are careful at those details, you’ll surely have a good time in your vacation, and you’ll see how good it is not to have to travel a few days until you reach your destination (although the journey may have its charm, sometimes).

Case Study; Cleaning of Rental Car Agencies as a Mobile Carwash Market Niche

Tip! Getting a car rental discount in Las Vegas is not difficult. It is important to do your research up-front, before you leave for your trip.

Many mobile car wash companies are a little wet behind the ears when they start and they have trouble choosing target clients to propel their business. We have found that there is significant market potential in used car lots. The best used car lots are those of Rent-A-Car Agencies who own used dealership divisions to maximize their profits on selling of their cars.

In previous times the Rent-A-Car Agencies sent the cars to auctions, yet this is not a good idea any longer with used car prices so low. For the first time in 2001 Avis started a used car lot in New Jersey to maximize their profits on sales of cars coming off the rental lines. It used to be considered dumb for a consumer to buy used and abused Rent-A-Cars, but now it is considered frugal, because most Rent-A-Cars have on average fewer than 25,000 miles on them at the time of sale.

Tip! Check with a variety of rental companies, both directly and through travel consolidation sites on the internet. Car rental is one area where it pays to shop around.

Rent-A-Car Agencies usually buy cars for a low fleet price and then sell them after making money on the rental of the same car for nearly what they originally paid for it once it is considered ‘run out’ or a ‘maintenance risk’ to keep around. So they then turn the cars before they get too old or too many miles on them to command a high resale price. Most are four door automatics and have gone through all the necessary maintenance checks and even come with limited warranties from the Rent-A-Car Company’s Pre-Owned Sales Divisions.

Every mobile car wash company should consider this niche market and also make good on the detailing of these cars going onto the car lots. Rental Car Agencies and their used car lots are great customers and make sense for many reasons to the fast moving high profitable mobile car washing and detail companies. Consider this in 2007.
