Bass Guitars And Jazz Music

14 Mar

There’s no such thing as jazz music without bass guitars. Their sound is the reason I fell in love with jazz in the first place. I remember the first jazz concerto I’ve attended: I was amazed by the bass guitar. Actually there were two bass guitar players in that band, both of them using short scale bass guitars, which created a terrific atmosphere.

Bass electric guitars are not that easy to play. I’ve tried once, and all I managed to do was to disturb my neighbours and to make my family bribe me to throw away or sell my bass guitar. I agreed to sell it, but I didn’t like what I saw: there were a lot of bass guitars for sale on internet at 100 dollars and under. I can understand that bass electric guitars are not w3anted by a lot of people, but I definitely thought mine was worth more, so I didn’t sell it after all.

Guess what: my kid is playing it today, and I’m so amused that he is fascinated by bass guitars that I even think to buy him some lessons.

Which Mortgage Type Is Better: Fixed Or Variable Rate?

14 Mar

What do you think it’s better? Fixed Rate Mortgages or variable rate ones?

Each of them has its own advantages and drawbacks, and surely there’s a risk to take when we decide for one type or mortgage or another.

Fixed rate mortgages are good if the rates have a growing trend: why not make a deal at the current rates, and pay less than some other people who make their deals in a year from now? The advantage is that you pretty much know all the variables: you know what your average income is, and you know how much the mortgage will cost you per year, so you can make some long term calculations and budgeting.

Variable rate mortgages can be good if the market becomes more and more crowded, thus more competitive, and all major players decrease the rates, in order to attract new clients. Then you won’t be happy to pay a fixed rate, when you see the rates dropping every year.

Anyway, before you decide, you’d better do your homework right and compare as many options as you can, to see what’s best for you. This can be done online, on websites like MoneyMagic, where you can apply online to get your free mortgage quotes.

Are You Efficient?

14 Mar

What is efficiency?

Maybe each of us has a personal definition. For me, efficiency is to get jobs done quickly, so I can have half of the day for leisure activities.

Of course this depends on how many jobs you want to accomplish in a due interval of time, let’s say half a day.

How I do this:

  1. I make a list each morning
  2. I include everything, from office work to house cleaning or shopping.
  3. I start doing the tasks on the list, one by one, and cut them as they are done.
  4.  At the end of the day, if there is so0mething left, I move it to the next day’s list.
  5. I always start with the most urgent matters, but I also do the important and non urgent things, because otherwise everything would become urgent pretty soon.
  6. If I get stuck, I let it aside for a while and do something else. Then I come back with a fresh perspective and most of the times I manage to get even the hardest things done in a simple way.
  7. Sometimes I appeal to Murphy’s laws: I leave it for the day after tomorrow, because until then, it won’t be necessary to do it any longer :)

How are you doing things? Are you efficient?

Temperature@lert Is Now Officially SPEC Power Compliant

11 Mar

We have good news for those of you who are interested in the IT industry:

Temperature@lert has been accepted as a SPEC Power compliant device.
It is the only approved device available with 64-bit drivers, which makes it unique and indispensable for all those who care about their computers.

If you don’t know what it is, please find out that Temperature@lert is an USB temperature sensor which can send temperature alerts via e-mail.

This is the official press release:

SPECpower_ssj2008 is the latest installment of an IT industry benchmark evaluates the power and performance characteristics in larger volume server class computers. It was created out of a need to monitor and regroup energy use from the IT industry and computer manufactures around the world.

SPECpower_ssj2008 does not only measure AC power from the source but it delivers a calibrated matrix for all computer functions including ambient temperature. There are two temperature measuring tools that are compatible with SPECpower_ssj2008 and the only one with support for 64-bit drivers is Temperarture@lert.

With the combination of the SPECpower_ssj2008 and Temperature@lert system administrators can run both temperature and power controls. The SPECpower_ssj2008 measures power for the AC input and combines the implementation to a performance metric. This provides pertinent information about what power considerations are made when considering which data center. Coupled with Temperature@lert, the power and temperature gradient works in symbiotic form to provide the best accuracy available in the IT industry.

We’d like to extend a special thanks to Greg D. and his team at Dell Inc. whose deep knowledge and expertise made this possible.

For more information about SPECpower_ssj2008 visit: http://www.spec.org/power_ssj2008/

Travel Now, Pay Later

11 Mar

Who doesn’t like going on vacation? But when you are short of money, you may find yourself caught in a dusty city during the whole summer, feeling hot and miserable.

Well, there is a solution to your problem: you can rent your vacation, so you can go now, when you need it, and pay for it later, when you can. Actually not exactly when you can, but anyway, later. A vacation rental is easier to obtain than a regular loan, as there are specialized companies which are burning to give you the money (and get some interest from you, of course).

So, do it like this: Travel Now – Pay Later — Finance that vacation you need.
You can get up to $3000 credit line, which will surely allow you to have a nice vacation together with your family, provided that you don’t want to sleep in Burj Al Arab ;)

Air Ambulance Services Can Save Lives

11 Mar

Probably you all know how it feels like when you need an ambulance and it comes late. Even 10 minutes may seem an infinity, when somebody is bleeding to death. What if you are in a place which is not accessible by car, or if your life depends on how fast you are taken to the hospital?

Well, for such situations, and not only, there are aerial ambulance services, like AeroCare. AeroCare’s air ambulance staff is very well trained and very careful with the patients, and they are coordinated from the 24 hour Flight Coordination Center in order to provide the best services for their clients.

Medivac services are also available, and the staff is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems.

In case you need such services, you can request an online quote on AeroCare’s website.

Get Total Access To Blockbusters

11 Mar

If you are living in the US, then you’re lucky, as now you have a new possibility to see all the movies you like sitting comfortably on your couch, drinking beer and eating popcorn (provided you know how to make popcorn).

Now you can select the movies you want online, and have them shipped to you at no cost. The best part is that after you see the movies you have two choices: either return them by mail, or return them at your closest local store.

There’s no wonder that people stopped going to the theater, when they can have all those blockbusters delivered to them at home like pizzas or Chinese food.
And again I’m jealous of US residents. We don’t have such convenient services in our country.

How Useful Insurance Can Be

05 Mar

Insurance is surely a prosperous business nowadays, when everybody gets at least two-three types of insurance every year. Only think a little bit: an average person gets a car insurance, a health insurance, a life insurance, a home insurance, and if he is an entrepreneur, he may also get a Business Insurance.

But not all insurances are the same, and the prices and conditions may vary a lot from one insurance company to another. For example, a car insurance can cost you between $700 and $1000 per year, for the same car, in the same insurance conditions, and with the same franchise.

So you see, a bit of preliminary research can save you a lot of money. Now, with this internet information explosion we witness these days, we don’t even have to go to the insurance companies or call their agents, in order to be able to compare their plans. There are websites which are specialized in comparisons, allowing you to make an informed choice. In the business sector, for example, there is Autonet Business Insurance, a website where you can get free quotes for all kind of insurance, from professional indemnity, to houses, or even to pets.

The website is easy to search, and if you prefer, you can call a toll free number and speak to an insurance consultant who will send you your quote after finding out what you need.

Isn’t this convenient?
